Atsuko Mochida was invited to an exhibition for a collaborative art project. The cooperation turned out different from what she had hoped for. She felt she was being instrumentalized by the curator and exhibiting institution. However, at same time, she realized that she herself also might have had instrumentalized her collaborators in the past.

This video was made from the materials of a workshop that Atsuko Mochida and Paul Lissner held at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, with the goal of re-thinking the process of her past project and her artistic practice in general, which always relies on the cooperation of many individuals. Participants of the workshop were cultural workers who shared their experience and thoughts on the topic of collaborative artistic practice.

Für ein gemeinsames Projekt wurde Atsuko Mochida zu einer Ausstellung eingeladen. Die Zusammenarbeit verlief anders als erhofft. Sie fühlte sich von Kuratorin und Institution instrumentalisiert und erkannte zugleich, wie leicht auch sie selbst ihre Kollaborateur*innen ausnutzen könnte.

Das Video basiert auf Material eines Workshops, den sie mit Paul Lissner leitete. Darin reflektierte sie ihren Arbeitsprozess und ihre künstlerische Praxis, die immer im Austausch mit anderen entsteht. Die Teilnehmenden – allesamt Kulturschaffende – brachten ihre Erfahrungen und Gedanken mit ein und eröffneten neue Perspektiven auf kollektives Arbeiten.
